Welcome to my world of filmmaking! I’m Calin Darabut, a Romanian filmmaker who has been passionate about cinema since my early days with the Romanian Boy Scouts, where I led the Multimedia department and made promotional films. Since then, my journey has taken me across continents, through different roles in film production, and into various creative fields.
I first gained recognition in 2008 when a short film I made with friends won fifth place in a local festival, inspiring me to keep going. Under the name ACSA Productions, we shared our films on YouTube, gaining a following and competing locally. I also released personal projects as Fisher Films, constantly experimenting with new techniques and storytelling approaches.
In 2010, I moved to Montreal, Canada, where I furthered my experience by volunteering with Concordia University Television and later studying Film and TV Production at the Trebas Institute. My work there led me to organize the Trebas Film Festival in 2013, where I screened my own student film, gaining firsthand experience in every step of filmmaking. Around the same time, I took a role at Cinepool studios as the Head Driver, after completing a workshop for electricians in cinema. In 2013, I directed my first independent feature called Injurious and had my first taste of large-scale production by working as a background performer on Hollywood films shot in Montreal, like X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
In 2014, I served as 1st Assistant Director on a web series that later aired on TV. I then moved to Vancouver in 2015, joining a prominent cinema equipment rental house as an electrical repair technician and eventually becoming part of IATSE, where I worked as a lamp operator on weekends. A career highlight during this period was being part of the crew for Predator (2018) as a lamp operator.
In 2018, I returned to Romania, where I expanded my skills into 2D animation, working on a successful animated series with a team of friends. I continued freelancing, focusing on video editing and IMDb, where I’ve gained expertise through my own projects and supporting others.
Today, as a freelance video editor and IMDb contributor based in my hometown, I’m excited to bring new stories to life. Thank you for joining me on this journey—let’s see where it takes us next!
